I met up with friends, Mike and Scot my first morning in Delhi. We took
a motor rickshaw into the Old City for a look around. Along the way we
came across this young girl. She was standing barefoot in the middle of the
busy intersection holding her baby. Our light changed red and we came to a
stop. She scurried up to our rickshaw and put her hand out begging for
food and money. I gave her some coins and then motioned to her asking for
a photo. She reached out and tapped on the lens hood of my camera with
her index finger, then nodded and posed like a cover-girl. Before taking her
photo Mike nudged me, “Wait a second,” he said. He then slowly reached
into his pocket drawing her attention back to reality, giving me the
opportunity for this candid shot.
